Edit-A-Post House Hunt

In order to be P.C., I've edited this post and deleted another. To make a long story short, we found a house we liked, had a contract, but it fell through during the inspection process.

For now, we're trusting the process and hoping more great options will come on the market as the snow thaws. Our house here in PA has been listed, so either way, we're moving by May 2nd!

The "Why?"s

In the past week or so Maggie has started asking "Why?" when we tell her things. And she is rarely satisfied with the first answer. Here's a recent example:

Maggie: "I want milk."
Me: "You can't have any milk Maggie."
Maggie: "Why can't Maggie have milk?"
Me: "Because you were sick last week. Remember how your belly hurt."
Maggie: "Why was Maggie sick?"
Me: "Because you got some germs."
Maggie: "Why did I have germs?"
Me: (in my head) "Because we took you to that nasty McDonalds PlayPlace on the way home from Ohio"
Me: (out loud) "Because sometimes people get sick.

It's still a relatively new conversation, so we think it's adorable. I wonder how long this enchantment will last before it becomes exhausting?

In other language development, Mag has started using pronouns correctly. It's probably 50/50 between her calling herself Maggie or using I/Me. She's still a little confused with the concept of "Me" and "You." It's so adorable when she says, "I come with me." She is trying so hard to get all her words right and make herself understood. She will just keep saying her sentence over and over until you repeat it back correctly. And if you get it wrong she tells you "NO!" I love that she's so determined!

Who's Counting?

5 loads of laundry done, 4 baths given, 3 beds whose sheets were changed, 2 sick girls, and 1 tired mom who hopes she doesn't catch her kid's flu while her husband is out of town on business.

On the road again

Jim had a last minute business trip to Cincinnati come up last week so we packed up our barely unpacked suitcases and headed to Ohio. We made record time on the outbound trip, thanks to sunny skies and good naps. Our return trip was also record setting, but not in a good way - over 12 hours, with sleet, snow and a sleepless Mag. But we made it back safely, that's all that matters.

As always, it was great to be back in Ohio! Cousin Beatrix was also in town visiting Grandma and Grandpa and we had lots of fun with her. Grandma used her new Boonshoft membership and took the girls to the museum, where Maggie and Bixie enjoyed playing veterinarian. Maggie always learns so much from Bixie, and during this visit she learned to say, "I can't." Thanks Bix! It's so fun to see those two together. There was lots of laughter, dancing, playing and chasing. It's safe to say they had a blast!

In other news, Jim and I looked at houses on Saturday and found one we really liked. He'll be going back to see it this week, along with some others. If we get everything lined up with the relocation company, we may be putting in an offer next week! Stay tuned!

Breakfast Time

It's arrived!

The much anticipated first tooth has made it's appearance in Claire's little mouth. The second one is close behind. If the experience is anything like with Maggie, they'll be coming in fast and furious now. Another very exciting arrival appears to be that all-important sleep milestone that everyone asks you about from the day your child is born. How is she sleeping? Well, I cautiously announce that Claire is sleeping through the night! It only took nine months! Of course, now that I've said it aloud, she'll probably wake up tonight.

Nearly Nine Months!

Claire will be 9 months old next week - how did that happen?! At her doctor's visit this week, Claire weighed 23 lbs, 10 oz and was 29 inches long. She doesn't have any teeth yet, but the first one will surely cut in a matter of days - it's close. Claire's constantly on the move and loves to explore. From a sitting position, she'll dig in her heals and scoot on her bottom across the floor. Claire finds Maggie's toys much more interesting than her own, which presents some challenges for the 2 year old. Claire's face lights up when she sees Maggie and she squeals with delight when her sister plays with her. It so fun to see the two girls communicate with each other. Every day at lunch, they do this head tilt-smile-head shake combination of moves back and forth, which is hilarious. Just a sneak peak at the sibling-only, non-verbal language they'll have for the rest of their lives.

My baking assistant

One of the things I love about being a SAHM is that I have all this free time on my hands to drink tea and bake cookies. Yeah right! Some days are so busy I can't remember if I've brushed my teeth. But there are those occasional days when time seems to stand still. I can be no where but in the present moment with my daughter. Having a toddler help me make cookies is a little slice of heaven right here on earth. I'm not sure who had more fun, me or Maggie.
