We knew she was big, but...

bigger than Maggie was at 6 months?!

Claire had her 4 (and a half) month check-up today and weighed in at a whopping 18 lbs! She is 26.5 inches long, putting her in the 98.5th and 97th percentiles respectively. I looked back at Maggie's records and she was that size at 6 months! While Claire might have started out normal sized (56th percentile at birth), she quickly has caught up with her sister to follow that highest curve on the growth chart. After watching the Olympics, I'm thinking they'll make a killer sand volleyball duo called the Fearsome Farwig Twin Towers.

Life in Maggie Land

A few updates on Maggie's recent antics and adventures. Her vocabulary is just exploding and I can barely keep up with all her new words. The joy on her face when she says a new word, and we understand it, is priceless. My favorite sentence she says all the time is "Mommy hot neck." This came about because over the summer I would say, when putting her hair in a pony tail, "It's a hot day, we need to get the hair off your neck." Now I hear Maggie's version of that every time I put my hair up, which is daily because seriously, who has time to style? She is also obsessed with our wedding video and when she saw Aunt Beth's lovely updo she declared, "Aunt Beth hot neck."

One of Maggie's other little tricks is taking off her diaper at night or after a nap. You can imagine the amount of laundry this leads to as she has yet to actually use the potty. So I stole this innovative idea from the family next door. I bought some of those old-fashioned vinyl diaper covers and diaper pins. I pin her pajama shorts and top together, through the diaper cover, on each side. Three night in a row and she's not escaped!

Maggie really enjoys that Claire has become more social. When Claire laughs, smiles or grabs Maggie's shirt, she just giggles and giggles. Just a sneak peak at all the fun they will have together.

We have lots of busy weekends coming up, blueberry picking tomorrow, the county fair next weekend, and a weekend on the Jersey Shore at the beginning of September. So stay tuned for lot of pictures in the weeks to come.

Hi Nurse!

I finally made it to the Wyoming Co. Family Resource Center today. I have been wanting to go for months now and finally had the chance this morning. The center has a lending and learning library where you can borrow educational toys free of charge. There were so many cool toys it was hard to choose just a few. One of the toys was based on the nursery rhyme "The Farmer in the Dell." There was this giant piece of cheese which, when unzipped, revealed puppets of all the characters from the song. Maggie and I had a blast with this toy today, playing with the puppets and singing. She called the farmer "Daddy" and the wife "Mommy" which was too cute. She even learned to say the word "Nurse" while we were playing, which melted this R.N.'s heart!

I was able to catch this video where Maggie greets the nurse, the wife and the rat/mouse."

4 Months!

I can't believe Claire is 4 months old! The summer has gone by so fast! Claire is getting bigger every day and learning so much. She has discovered her hands and feet and has quite a strong grip. Claire laughs and smiles and, as long as she's not tired, is usually pretty easy going. She has slept through the night the past few nights, so we know she's able to. Now if we can just keep that trend going, we'll be in business. She has a check-up next week and I can't wait to check in on her stats, I'm thinking 15lbs.

Moo Cow

My Mom's group ventured to Manning's Dairy Farm on Wednesday. Maggie was very excited for our trip and the whole way there kept saying, "Go Farm, See Moo, Milk." The cows did not disappoint. We saw them being milked and one even got close to the kids when fed some grass. Of course, my favorite part was the ice-cream!

She'll have to get used to it...Maggie (on the right) taller than the boy who's a year older.

Talk about supply, one cow put out 43 lbs of milk during our visit!

Spiedie Fest

We traveled to Binghamton, NY to attended Spiedie Fest last Saturday. Binghamtom was the perfect half way point to meet up with our friends Mike and Jill who traveled down from Syracuse. The festival is famous for it's "spiedies" or marinated chicken kabobs, although the ones Jim makes with the spiedie sauce from the grocery store are better. Maggie loved the hot air balloons and kid rides, but was not a fan of the man on the loudspeaker. We had great weather and really enjoyed the opportunity to visit with friends.

If they had a pin-up calendar for babies, Claire would be the month of August.
