Latest Obsession

Well, I have become a little video obsessed lately. I was frustrated at our inability to publish video from our camcorder on this blog and now I'm making up for lost time. I was hoping that when we moved to NEPA our family and friends could feel closer by watching a few choice videos every so often. I was venting about this to my friend Sarah who suggested using the video feature of our regular camera (she's so smart!). And now I can't stop trying to capture the hundreds of adorable moments throughout the day! The problem is Maggie has caught on to me. Now, I have to be really sneaky or else she'll stop playing to run over to see the camera. Luckily, Claire's captive and will not be mobile for several more months.

Example #1: She was dancing a little Irish jig while playing with her musical farm on the fridge.

Example #2: One of Maggie's favorite things to do is run in circles through the kitchen, dining room and play room pushing her stroller.

The Jacobs in NEPA

Aunt Julie and cousins Zane and Lia came to visit us in Tunkhannock this past weekend. They are spending part of the summer in D.C. while Uncle Nathan has an internship, so they were in the "neighborhood." Our busy weekend included mini-golf, the Tunk. Founder's Day festival, a tour of the P&G plant, throwing rocks into the Susquehanna, building a bonfire, and of course lots of Nintendo. Aunt Julie watched the girls Saturday night while Peg and Jim snuck out for a coffee date.

Claire was happy to meet her cousins and show off her new smiling abilities. Maggie was especially excited about the hand-me-down toys she received from Lia. The talking, drinking, peeing Elmo was certainly her favorite and helped Maggie learn to say the word potty, which sounds more like "bobby." We'll see if the big red guy helps when it's time to potty train. As always, it was great to have visitors!

Happy Father's Day!

For Father's Day weekend we headed to Philadelphia. It was great to explore this historic city and get a nice dose of urban life. Saturday morning we went to the "Please Touch" children's museum. Maggie enjoyed shopping in the pint-sized grocery store, driving the cars, sailing the boats, and visiting the farm. While the girls napped, Jim visited Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. He almost had to donate his pocket knife to the Homeland Security Dept. in order to see Independence Hall. Luckily, he had some quick thinking and buried it in a nearby shrub before his tour. Let Freedom Ring.

Just chillin'

On Sunday we visited the nation's first zoo. It was also our first trip to the zoo as a family. The visit was especially fun since Maggie has taken to singing Old MacDonald's "E, I, O" and is making animal sounds. Claire preferred to experience the zoo from the Baby Bjorn instead of the stroller, who can blame her? Maggie discovered the world of condiments during our lunch and decided ketchup is pretty yummy. Check out the video at the end, pardon the noisy lunch room.

Little Girl, Big World

The local nature center was having a festival this weekend so we went to check it out. There were folk musicians, rare birds, native plants and a display about the proposed windmill farm coming to Mehoopany (go renewable energy). I snapped this picture of Maggie and Jim walking and just love it! We tend to focus on how big Maggie has become and it is easy to forget how small she really is. She looks so little next to her Daddy and amidst the trees.

Bed Head

We're in the middle of a heat wave and Maggie's room stays pretty toasty despite constantly running AC, a ceiling fan, and a floor fan. (Whoever designed the HVAC system in this house should be hunted down). Alas, the other day when she woke up from a nap, up in her sweat lodge, her curly hair was in a rare state. By the look on her face, it appears Maggie was too.

The Reward

The challenges of the newborn phase can be overwhelming at times...the fussiness, the sleepless nights, the spit-up, etc. But it is all worth it when you get that first gummy smile! We can't believe Claire is 8 weeks old, the time has flown! She has her 2 month check up this week and we are looking forward to seeing how much she's grown.
