And the Livin' is Easy
It's exactly the half-way point of our summer! While the first half has been quite busy, there's a welcome emptiness on the calendar in the remaining weeks. Maggie and Claire took swimming lessons for three weeks in June. Staying true to her personality, Maggie was slow to warm up to the instructors and other children. But by the end she didn't hesitate to jump right in every day and passed Level 1 with ease. Claire, on the other hand, was an enthusiastic participant on the first day but changed her tune on day two and rarely made it off the steps the rest of the time. Every day during lessons we packed a lunch and stayed after to swim at the pool when it opened. It was hectic and a lot of work for me, but worth it since long naps resulted after so much play!
Other highlights of the past month include a Flynn family vacation to Maumee Bay state park, a visit from MawMaw and PawPaw, a July 4th boating excurstion to my uncle's lake house, and a visit with my dear friend Patty.
Patty is a friend of mine from grade school and was my maid of honor. Our parents lived very close to each other in Dayton, so we spent nearly all our summers together in high school and college. Patty's parents now live outside of St. Louis and her sister-in-law is expecting the first Finkenstadt grandbaby in just a few weeks. Since Patty lives in Arizona now, when I heard she would be in the Midwest for the baby shower, I jumped at the chance to see her. It was wonderful to see her sisters and parents, who call me their fourth daughter. It was not a particularly restful weekend since Anna's sleep was so fragmented from the travel, but it was fulfilling none-the-less. There is just something so comforting about spending time with people who have known you your entire life.

Anna's Baptism
Anna Mary Farwig was welcomed into the Church on June 6th. We had her baptized during the Sunday morning Mass we regularly attend at St. Michael's church. In keeping with her easy going personality, Anna did not fuss once during the ceremony. She wore the Flynn family baptismal gown which is 66 years old. Anna was the 24th baby to wear the heirloom gown. Jim and I were so thankful to be surrounded by most of our family for this special occasion!
